“Pervocalypse”

I didn’t coin this portmanteau, Greg Gutfeld did. But it is, unfortunately, not only apropos but a “keeper”.

We shouldn’t be surprised, really. After all, the “casting couch” has been around since Edison built the “Black Mariah” in his yard in West Orange. Probably before. Might even go back to the Globe Theater in England when the Bard’s plays were being cast. It’s been so pervasive it’s become a trope. Films and television programs have used it often enough that it doesn’t shock us. Now, the “who” of these issues sometimes does, but the “what” doesn’t. I have a love of classical music, (yes, including opera), but have really very little to do with it other than listening on my local NPR station. Popular music is a different story. I have a LOT of experience and connections in that. The recording industry is no better. A little less visible, but no better. ALL genre, by the way, are guilty. There are none exempt. None. Even our media, the people we have trusted over the years to tell us what’s happening, are now being exposed, no pun intended, as sexual predators, deviates and, as my open alludes, perverts. Bad, bad news.

Seems every wee little different. This scares me. Let me explain. Some of the “dilution” I alluded to earlier on affects not only the rules but the ramifications for violating them. Instead of justice “swift & sure”, due process now takes place on the internet and in the media long before any, (let alone all), of the facts behind any allegations are gathered. The “court of public opinion” tries, convicts and hangs people before “the cops get there”, so to speak. Guilty until proven innocent is not a good thing! Mind you, if the allegations prove true and guilt is established, we still have to have a system that has punishment fit to the crime. If I may, I’d like you to ponder this. The “Pervocalypse” began with one allegation toward one prominent mogul in the world of entertainment. It quickly and virulently spread to other entertainers and on to politicians. One media person was applauding the “me too” hash-tag movement. “All it takes is that first brave woman”, she said. True. But what if that brave woman is lying? There was a case not long ago where four promising young men had their futures destroyed by one woman alleging that there was a “rape culture” on a college campus. Yes, they were exonerated. Does it matter? When a company “googles” them and sees that, do you think that company will want the liability of that kind of notoriety? What happens when some of the other women making similar claims turn out to be lying? What happens when all they want is their “fifteen minutes of fame” and a couple of million in a “settlement”? Some of the follow-up to the “Campus Rape Crisis” turned out to be that some of the claims were coming from people who entered the bedroom consensually, only to have regret and a hangover the next day. What happens when the allegations come from boys and men about either other boys and men or even from girls and women? What about when there is some other sort of enticement or compulsion?

One of the things that is causing the seemingly mass crossing of “the line” is that the lines are no longer clear. Right or wrong, sin, marriage vows, Hell’s bells, even gender is “fluid”! Countless “programs” and “training sessions” have been, are and will continue to be implemented. It’s even being proposed that all of our representatives and senators go through some sort of training. Presumably including their massive staffs, at our expense. They’ve already spent more than fifteen MILLION dollars in “hush money”, OUR money, over the years. How about we do this, instead? Investigate, quietly at first, (transparency coming at the end of the investigation because we MUST have transparency!), and let us say “YOU’RE FIRED!” at the ballot. Or the box office. Or in the record store.

Whatcha think?k we see another story from somewhere in America about a teacher being “involved” with a student. A coach, a tutor…THESE folks are not only supposed to be teaching our children “the three R’s”, (though they really seem to have gotten away from THAT), but are people we have, historically, entrusted with the well being of or kids.

Doctors. Dentists. Chiropractors. Priests / Ministers / Rabbis. Cops. Even the milkman became something of “joke”, along with the postman.

“But wait! There’s more!” as they say in the “as seen on TV” ads for products…Now we’re finding out that our government officials, people we are supposed to trust to keep us safe as a nation, are cut from the same cloth. People who are supposed to be looking out for us are looking out for themselves. In and of itself, that’s not news. Money and power have always been stewed in the waters of “the swamp” that is D.C. “Power corrupts” and all that. Everything from allegedly accidental “hot mic” recordings of “locker room talk” to a stolen kiss to full on groping and rape. Allegedly with door-locking buttons on desks to control office doors.

Why is this?
