P-QRM #70: Onward and upward…Well, If You’re Hillary, Down and Dirty

Thank the Lord the DNC has come to a conclusion. My nausea is finally abating. So anywho, we talk about the upcoming election .And the increased threat to Europe by Islam, yet Merkel’s insistence that more be brought to Germany. Madness!

We go off the rails a bit, and no, for the record: Lou was not drunk..

This and more on this Political QRM

Towards the end of show, your talk about frank zappa, Cheech and chong etc. I enjoyed them all but now looking back I honestly have lost respect for them. Today I try to be high morality. It is at the root of most of what is going wrong in the world. I honestly see the democrat party as the party of the immoral. They want to kill babies, pay people who do not work, and reward thugs. The only way we have hope is to support what is true and moral. Cheech and Chong’s humor was in large part about disrespect for any authority and pro drugs. Is this what I would tell people today represents my values? Frank zappa, while he was not into drugs, DID support and GIVE drugs drugs to people he worked with. I just read Howard Kaylan book Shell Shocked. He was lead singer for the turtles. I LOVED their music. His life was SOOO full of using women for sex and taking drugs I think of it when I hear their songs now. He told stories about Frank Zappa. He was very anti establishment and he did NOT avoid drugs, he just did not do them. He was no paragon of virtue. We really have to pick better heroes don’t you think? I would NOT recommend their stuff to ANY kids. Too many kids today are doing drugs and have NO respect for authority. Special snowflakes all. Comments?

Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it”. We see that, in effect, every day. But there’s a danger in applying unrefined history as a glue or varnish to a fractured present. Every generation is viewed askance bye the generation that preceded it. What we saw as a “soundtrack” of our lives is now a memory. In many cases a fond memory. I have the memory of Cheech & Chong filed in the same place as those of Zappa, Carlin, Bruce and Professor Tom Lehrer. They’re in the drawer next to the memories of JFK, RFK, MLK and Armstrong landing on the Moon. Directly below the drawer with CCR, Sabbath, Zeppelin, the Doors and lots of other “anti-establishment / war” poets, musicians and politicians while dodging bullets. It colors us but doesn’t define us. Would I rather my kids / grandkids listen to Flo and Eddie, as members of The Turtles, singing about “Elinore” and “Happy Together” than “Cop Killah” or some other racist, misogynist and violent song of today? You bet!
We DID, indeed, address these issues in #73. Give them a listen. Because NONE of the bands / artists in question are “heroes”. At least not in the bright lights of the Kennedys or Dr. King.
DO please keep listening and DO please keep commenting! It tells us we’re doing SOMETHING right!
    Lou
